Was it always this gross?

Picked up some KFC chicken today because I was hungry, lazy, ran out of food, etc... and now I'm consider dumping the entire bucket. I don't ever remember it tasted this bad. Granted, it has been more than a decade since I last ate anything other than hot wings from there, but still. Bleh! I don't think it's a matter of my palate being used to whole food. Junk food used to taste good after a long stretch of home cooked meals. I don't think a lot of the junk food now a day could even be called food anymore. It certainly doesn't taste like it.

    You lose your taste for junky fast food after being off it for a while. But KFC did change something in their recipe about 5 years ago and it hasn't been as good since, so it is probably a combination of both. We've lost our taste for fast food. About the only thing we can still eat from a fast food place is Subway. Fortunately we have a couple of non-chain drive-ins that actually make real food without bad ingredients relatively quickly that we can go to for chicken, burgers, and fish and chips on occasion.

    In my opinion, yes it was before and it is still. My husband loves that KFC stuff though. That's what he wanted for his birthday dinner!

    I can relate to your tastes and your surprise. Our family also makes Subway our rare fast food choice these days. The result from chains that fry stuff doesn't even look tempting now.

    I think we've grown accustomed to the superior taste of fresh food that's cooked at home. Even processed food from the freezer section at the grocery store doesn't look or taste like real food anymore.

    This is one area of our life that's become a win-win-win: cooking at home. Cheaper, better, and healthier.

    They stopped using trans fats, and, like everywhere else that happened, flavor took a nose dive.

    We haven't had KFC in quite some time. Like others commenting, Subway tends to be our fast food of choice when we have it. Otherwise, we like noodle places, which is pretty fast, but no drive thru!

    Haven't had KFC since middle childhood when it was still Kentucky Fried Chicken. But I agree that prepared foods are getting worse. Cheap in a BAD way! Interesting about those here who like Subway. My DH cannot stand it, while I can tolerate it but don't actively like it.

    We think they have changed recipes or oil or ... hubby got some when I was out of town and it made him sick. Not the good stuff we remembered.
