Privacy isn't free

November 7th, 2013 at 04:50 am

With the migration of all things financial to the net, I've come to realize the danger of using a free email account. So it's time to pay up for an obscure domain and a monthly website hosting fee for that extra layer of protection.

I don't understand why you need to obtain/pay for a web site hosting fee. Doesn't your bank and investment firm have secure electronic transaction protocols? Financial firms have cautioned not to reveal specific account information. Before rushing to pay, I suggest you check with your financial institutions to determine if you're satisfied with their security systems.

It's not really the worry of easy access to my bank that prompted this decision. It's the data mining that's I'm worried about.
